Suggestion: It would've been much easier to follow the sections where you talk about the various subtypes if there was a table or some other visual building summary of what all the subtypes offered in order to more easily understand all the options at a glance.

tiefling from PF1 and 3e were definitely much better then the single fiend influenced versions honestly much more bland and less unique same with aasimar their is more fiends then devils and more celestials then just angels stop being so lazy WOTC and other critics i could throw their way in regards to races though also wish some fiends got more lore to them and by extension their corrupted mortal relatives such as the asura or oni which don't seem to have much lore on them like their leaders at best if lucky a few sentences of lore or such along with they only made demonic half fiend variants in regards to templates my favorite are probably the kyton and Sahkil im thinking in theme

I had a really good experience running an all-Tiefling campaign for the Giantslayer AP. The entire party were different variants of 1E Tieflings and they really leaned into the whole "Well, you look strange, but at least you aren't a half-orc" flavor that I had with the townfolk of Trunau (starting point of book 1). The party wasn't evil but they weren't good either, I pretty much treated them as "undeclared neutral" but was prepared to re-classify them as either good or evil as they reacted to the campaign (they stayed pretty down-the-middle alignment-wise, so no surprises there....) So if your group is up for it, let them try and all-tiefling campaign, see how it works out. It isn't for every table, I'm sure, but it can work with the right players and GM....

I think it was a mistake taking tieflings out of the Planescape/planes setting. It’s like taking moles from dark sun and plastering in every setting. Doesn’t work and ruins the races uniqueness.

One of the best combos I've built around Spring Attack used Samurai as the chassis. Probably why its banned from PFS play Warrior Poet archetype with Order of the Blossom. Comes online at 6th with Spring Attack as a bonus feat eventually you will want to finish the spring heeled feat chain off with Spring-heeled Style & Reaping since you get improved and greater Spring Attack for free all of which you are able to add Vital Strike/improved to through another class feature (first hit only gets vital strike)

Spheres of Might 3rd party system is all about making single attacks instead of full-attacks to make combat more mobile. It doesn't work out of the box with Spring Attack as is because Spring Attack doesn't use the normal "attack action" but there's the Mobile Striker talent of the Athletics sphere that makes it work (and counts as having Spring Attack for other feats that require it so you don't need the spend the feat slot). I'm just getting into spheres in general and it really opens up the character options you want to have without having to crunch feats as much

How does the reverse work? By reverse I mean when/how do monsters overcome DR? I have always assumed the DR of a monster determines what they can overcome. For example, a creature with DR/5 magic has magic aligned natural attacks.

    • @d6damage93
      @d6damage93 21 день назад

DR for players is fairly rare, but in cases where it does happen, like the barbarians DR, it will typically say in the description of the monsters' attacks, such as, Balor's Unholy Great Sword that's alignment based damage which is treated as having a +4 enchantment bonus for the purpose of becoming DR.

Finished playing a runes of azlant game with a spring attack. I went catfolk with climb speed. Super fast. Here is the breakdown. Go samurai with rhe archetype ward speaker with jinushigami for +10 speed at 1st and +20 at 9th. I also took warrior poet archetype. With exodus of speed for +10 at 1st and up to +30 for a +50 speed between the 2 archetypes. Warrior poet is also built around spring attacking and the only way you can spring attack and legally vital strike via chrysanthemums blooming. Now get the spring heeled style chain. Spring heeled sprint doubles your movement. We are looking now at a base 30 ft+ 50 (samurai) x2=160 ft when spring heeling. We are not done though. Next take mocking dance and performance combatant. Now you can move your speed during your performance check (as a swift or free action). Now take that 160 +80=240 ft. Your not done yet... take combat stamina. Use 5 points to use spring attack/sprint as a standard action. Then take a move action. So now thats 240+80= 320 ft. I also ended up taking lightning stance which activates whenever you do mocking dance. I took twinned feint and greater feint as warrior poets florish kitsunes mystique allows you to feint for free when using apring attack or move action to move. I was the order of the blossom so im getting a feint which allows for flatooted for all due to greater feint, spring attacking, sneak attacking, improved vital strike on a skirmishers challenge enemy. I eventually went called shot for the anime vibe but didnt really need it. I did go charisma which most dont but i just made some deals with some sucubus, paid a wizard to cast genius avaricious for mammons mantle and got charisma stuff. Had dex and str high. I did get impacting and transformative on my weapon and also went pauldrons of the juggernaut for enlarge. I took champion of grace feat for more casting options and removing debuffs. The cleric gave me second wind spell vis contract and i got myself some talismans of lifex3 lesser tatooed and the dream journal of the palid seer to keep me up if i ever did die. I was so fast and hit so hard that enemies either died after 1-2 strikes or never got a chance to reach me due to my speed. For those who say spring heeled chain doesnt work with spring attack, they fixed it in an errata.

@@d6damage93 Also, the Arcane Bloodline provides some negative impacts to other casters with Disruptive Bloodrage and then Disruptive giving a +6 penalty to cast defensively within the threatened areas if you have an available Attack of Opportunity. And it gets nastier for casters as the levels climb. Or Cleave/Great Cleave and Stand Still if one has Combat Reflexes (which is a Bonus feat for Arcane Bloodline). Trying out this build and I have considered Mobility/Spring Attack in the later game or instead of Cleave/Great Cleave.

You can quite easily make a 'cult themed' setting with variations of different monster types. I ran a little scenario of a quiant little town/village themed under "Colour out of Space" for a low level party that uses a Venedaemon soul collector who wants to harvest souls to feed 'an engine of melancholy,' make maddened villagers and corrupt the region into his making (ala the Yellow King,) who has servant Skulks working as plague doctors harvesting bodies after they're near dead, in which the Venedaemon uses to sacrifice to call and bargain Evil Outsiders to stir havok. There's a lot of monsters in the Bestiary, sadly a lot of really interesting ones in Supplements like a horse-sized fungal monster that can teleport as a reaction to getting hit, or the Sahkil, Esipil which appears as a dog that behaves violently and territorial as a game and can quickly shapeshift like a Deadspace Necromorph that causes a fear effect to those that see it.

The more I learned about both systems, though, the more appealing Pathfinder became. This became especially true as I started looking at the possibility of GMing. While both systems have their flaws, I definitely prefer Pathfinder as a core ruleset overall, especially because porting content from D&D 3 or 3.5 is easy and there are plenty of alternate rulesets to keep things fresh.

Just like your thumbnail, we can use art to help decide the tone of our games. I have been playing since 1995 (yeah, you can call me a boomer, grognard, whatever), and D&D to me will always be based on the art of what I consider the trifecta of D&D artists: Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell and (the one on the left of your thumbnail) Larry Elmore. I don't think we will remember the art of current D&D in twenty years or so... It really baffles me that anyone would want the "tone" conveyed in the latest pieces of D&D art.

Wow, Larry Elmore. I remember him from his art for Everquest and Wheel of Time. I'll have to look at the others you mentioned.

Funny, seeing your poster, I always thought I was running the 2nd kind of game (the epic fight against evil), but now that I think of it, it's more like a kid and his pet! 😅

I typically favor more on the serious side where combat is impactful and can be the cause of a tpk if the players don't think for like 2 seconds, as well as have a world where their choices actually matter and aren't given stuff out like candy because "muh hero points". I also like to track carry weight and ammo usage, as well as other resources because its a small way to add a bit more thought to the game and makes magic bows that fire unlimited arrow, or daggers that return once thrown that much more rewarding, same with a rare bag of holding, or a chalice that once per day can fill itself with a healing potion that scales with their level. I want magic items to feel special, not mundane.

Sounds like you have a good system. Making magic items rare and valuable gives a game a nice low fantasy flavor.

You just described an old school game, where resource management and attrition are the basis of the game.

I want to run a game where my players are two dwarven gay baristas, and the challenges they have to face when their Amazon orders are the wrong colour (or size!) and the general hijinks they have when dealing with customers and customers increasingly wacky demands.

You jest, but some people love the idea of cozy TTRPGs or business management sim RPGs. Putting it in a fantasy setting just helps ease any idiosyncrasies as hitherto unexplained lore

I wouldn't use DnD or PF for such a game, but they still would be fun with the right group and the right mindset walking in

@@PlaneswalkerTARDIS I think that's the main thing people are upset about, that (mostly dnd) is becoming so watered down that it is losing its identity instead of another ttrpg being made or found to suit such interest such as these. I have no problems with ttrpgs made to do this kind of stuff, I just wont play it. What I have a problem with is trying to change so much of what already exists and has existed tailored for an audience then being changed to try and pull in a different audience that may still not like it, were just trend followers and would move on to the next thing, or who have no interest in buying the product and just pirate it which leads to the company moving on because it isn't profitable.

@PlaneswalkerTARDIS 100% For a game like this, they'd better off using something like Fate (I mean, unless you think your baristas are gonna be having regular combat encounters) (Also, a slight worrisome degree of specificity already with the game pitch. If you plan too far without any player involvment, you might as write a book at that point)

This is all for Pathfinder 1e. If you're new to TTRPGs it's a version of D&D 3.5 made by a separate publisher. The archetypes I talk about are mostly from the Horror Adventures supplement book. All of this material is available online on the Pathfinder PFSRD site.
